Dashboard Guide

A complete walkthrough of every section of the AdBudgetBuddy dashboard. Learn how to interpret your data, use filters, and act on insights.

Dashboard overview

The main dashboard gives you a real-time snapshot of your ad budget performance across all advertisers and channels. When you first log in, you’ll see four stat cards at the top: Total Budget, Total Spend, Remaining Budget, and Pacing. These aggregate numbers update each time actuals are imported or synced. Below the stat cards, the dashboard is organized into tabs and cards covering budget vs. actual charts, channel breakdowns, health scores, and recent activity.

Understanding the stat cards

The four cards at the top of the dashboard show your current period’s summary:

  • Total Budget — The sum of all planned cost budgets for the selected period.
  • Total Spend — The sum of all actual spend imported or synced for the period.
  • Remaining Budget — Budget minus Spend. Positive means you have room left; negative means you’ve overspent.
  • Pacing — Expressed as a percentage. 100% means your spend is exactly on track relative to where you are in the month. Below 95% is underpacing (yellow); above 105% is overpacing (red).

Note: Each stat card includes a sparkline showing the last 30 days of trend data.

Budget health score

The Health Score card shows a 0–100 score calculated as:

Health Score = 100 − |Actual − Budget| / Budget × 100
  • Green (80–100): Within 10% variance. Budget is well controlled.
  • Yellow (50–79): 10–25% variance. Some attention needed.
  • Red (0–49): More than 25% variance. Immediate review recommended.

Note: The health score requires both budget entries and actuals to be present for the same date range, advertiser, and channel.

Budget vs. actual chart

The Budget vs. Actual chart shows your planned budget (as a bar) against your actual spend (as a line or overlapping bar) over time. Use this to visually identify which weeks or days you overspent or underpaced. The chart respects the date range filter at the top of the dashboard. You can switch between daily, weekly, and monthly aggregations using the controls inside the chart card.

Channel performance

The Channel Performance table and Spend by Channel chart break down your spend and budgets by channel (Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, LinkedIn Ads, etc.).

  • Use the table to see each channel’s budget, actual spend, variance amount, and variance percent.
  • The Spend by Channel chart shows each channel’s share of total spend as a donut or bar chart.
  • Click a channel row to drill into that channel’s detailed view.

Period comparison (MoM and YoY)

The Month-over-Month (MoM) and Year-over-Year (YoY) comparison cards let you compare spend performance across time periods.

  • MoM Comparison: Compare current month vs. prior month for spend, budget, and variance.
  • YoY Comparison: Compare current month vs. the same month last year.
  • Positive change (green) means higher spend this period; negative (red) means lower spend.

Note: YoY comparison requires at least 13 months of data to be meaningful.

Managing advertisers

Navigate to Advertisers in the sidebar to see all advertisers in your account. Each advertiser has its own detail page showing:

  • Advertiser-level budget vs. actual summary.
  • Channel breakdown specific to that advertiser.
  • All budget entries and actuals associated with that advertiser.
  • Links to the advertiser’s connected ad platform accounts (if using OAuth connections).

Date range filters

Use the date range selector at the top of the dashboard to change the period being analyzed. Options include:

  • Current month (default)
  • Last 7 days
  • Last 30 days
  • Custom date range (pick any start and end date)
  • Last month
  • Last quarter

Note: The selected date range applies to all cards and charts on the dashboard simultaneously.

Platform connections (OAuth)

Go to Connections in the sidebar to connect your ad platform accounts. Supported platforms include Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Microsoft Advertising, and others. Once connected, actuals sync automatically on a daily schedule, eliminating the need to manually import spend data. You can view the sync status and last sync time on the Connections page. Disconnect any platform at any time from the same page.

Recent activity

The Recent Activity list at the bottom of the dashboard shows the latest actions in your account: budget imports, actuals imports, platform syncs, advertiser changes, and user activity. Each entry includes a timestamp and the user who triggered the action.

Quick tips

  • Import budgets at the start of each month to enable pacing tracking from day one.
  • Connect your ad platforms via OAuth to get automatic daily actuals without manual imports.
  • The Health Score is your fastest signal — check it daily to spot issues before they escalate.
  • Use the period comparison cards to identify seasonal patterns and YoY growth.
  • The Channel Performance table is sortable — click column headers to sort by variance or spend.
